A Growing Issue – The Impact Of Obesity On Healthcare In Australia

We know that obesity is a major issue impacting the health of Australians and the delivery of healthcare in Australia, but a recent study undertaken by the University of Sydney’s School of Public Health (reported by the ABC on 29th September 2016)  paints a picture of a situation that is anticipated to get far worse.  The School has modelled the health of Australians and predicts that 35% of adults – that is over 1 in 3 Australian adults- will be obese by 2025. Currently around a quarter of Australians are classified as obese, that is, they have a Body Mass Index of more than 30 and these projections will increase the proportion of obese Australians significantly.
